Technician_Overview

In July 2015, Council introduced a new cadre of pharmacy support personnel named pharmacy technician, in addition to the already existing pharmacist’s assistant basic (PAB) and pharmacist’s assistant post-basic (PAPB).

The relevant regulations are being amended to facilitate a separate register for pharmacy technicians (PT). In the interim, students that have completed their advanced certificate (pharmacy technician) are required to undergo a minimum period of six (6) months traineeship as a pharmacist’s assistant learner post-basic (PALPB) under an approved tutor in premises approved by Council for training and, thereafter, register as pharmacist’s assistants (post-basic). Once the regulations have been amended, the relevant pharmacy technicians (registered as pharmacist’s assistant post-basic) will be notified and their registration will be automatically changed to that of a pharmacy technician.
